Audition - Workshop - Research Program 20 - 30 November 2017 Lies Serdons is looking for dancers (M/F) Performers and actors with a strong sense of moving are also welcome to apply. For her next project Lies Serdons is doing research concerning the combination of classical ballet and contemporary dance to Japanese Avant-Garde. Mixing metamorphoses and the state of mind developed in Butoh together with the fixed esthetic form of ballet and modern dance. During 9 days at the Rosas studios (a residency by Workspace Brussels) Lies Serdons invites dancers who are willing to explore the world of transformation, a-typical movements, contortions and finding a way to construct it in the dancers own dance language. The audition - workshop - research program will be divided in 2 parts. 1. From 20 until 24 of November classes will be taught by Japanese master Tadashi Endo. 5 hours a day between 10h and 18h, fixed timing will be notified after your application. (Information about Tadashi Endo can be find below) 2. After the teaching a small group will be selected to work for 4 days (27, 28, 29 and 30 of November) on analyzing the material, how to translate the teaching into Western dance forms and finding ways to integrate it in their own body language. The main focus will be laid on improvisations and collaborations between the dancers. The participants that are selected for the second week are most likely (when possible concerning their own agenda) invited to take part at the new dance-production in 2018. We can offer the participants of the second week a refund of their transportation costs and a small séjour for that week. Dancers that take part in the production in 2018 will be paid for rehearsal days and performing dates. After his study as a theatre director at the famous Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna, he performed with collaboration with jazz musicians. In 1989 he met Kazuo Ohno who already then realized a deep relationship between Endo’s dance and the Butoh-dance. Since then Tadashi Endo developed his movements to that esthetic and expressive dance, as you can see today. Since several years Tadashi Endo works together with Germany’s most popular film- and opera director DORIS DÖRRIE, for example as choreographer for the opera Madame Butterfly (Theater am Gärtnerplatz München 2006), for the cinema film HANAMI-KIRSCHBLÜTEN (2007), the opera ADMETO (International Haendel Festival Göttingen and International Festival Edinburgh 2009) and DON GIOVANNI (Hamburgische Staatsoper 2011.2012). In all these productions Tadashi Endo also appears as a solo dancer. Since 2009 there is continuous collaboration with Italy’s prima ballerina assoluta CARLA FRACCI, like in the project „I HAVE A DREAM“ (Teatro Massimo/Palermo Sicily 2009), and FUTURISMO (Teatro Nazionale in Rome, Italy 2010). Tadashi Endo has the position as a guest professor at the Hochschule für Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main, Germany, The Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, Israel, and at the Nucleo Interdisciplinar des Pesyuisas TeatrUnicamp, University Campinas, Brazil. www.tadashi-endo.de What is Butoh? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butoh
